And here are the recent photos of him - you can see that now he's a bit overweight (hey, it's January!) but also that his back has completely changed shape and he's gained a lot of muscle development. He's been in regular work and just isn't the same horse anymore. No wonder he needs a new saddle!
I am going through the saddle fit hell also. John's saddle was custom fit by Cordia when he was 4; he's now 8 and a different horse physically. I noticed the 'top hat' position of the saddle this summer particularly. Going wider with a synthetic I have on trial, but can't get to the barn due to ice so have as yet no idea as to fit.
ReplyDeleteFrustrating, isn't it?!?! I think somewhere in the back of my head I thought "Oh, I have a custom fit saddle. It's obviously perfect! I don't have to think about my saddle anymore" and that's where I left it for the last 4 years. To feel like I "suddenly" discovered the saddle doesn't fit is very distressing - now I have to go through the decision making process all over again. And no matter how much you "try" a saddle before buying, you never really know until you own it & ride it for a few months, I think. So it kind of all feels like a crap shoot anyway. "Rhio - what saddle do YOU want?" If only it were that easy.
